17 Oct 8 Spooktacular Garden Decorations To Try This Halloween Blog 2

It’s almost time to dig out those old Halloween costumes and decorations from storage for the spookiest night of the year. While you’re at it, why not try some extra creepy outdoor Halloween decorations this year, and cast a spell over your neighbourhood?

Here are eight super spooky garden decoration ideas that are super easy to put together.

1. Witch Legs

For this trick, you’ll need a large cauldron filled with hay, two long sticks, a pair of long black and white socks, and some black shoes. Stuff the socks with cotton wool or paper, with one stick down the middle of each, then place them upside down in the cauldron. If you don’t have a cauldron, you could always stick the legs in a hedge or bucket of sand. Add the shoes as a finishing touch. Get ready for the neighbours to be shocked and maybe a little spellbound. Let the witching hour begin!

2. Eyes in a Hedge

There’s nothing freakier than something watching you in the dark. Take a pair of paper plates and paint eyeballs on them. You can add some glow-in-the-dark paint or lights to the centres of the eyes. Use some string to tie them to a bush and your eerie eyeballs are ready for some Halloween action.

3. Skeleton in a Wheelbarrow

This spine-chilling idea is great if you’re on a budget and have a wheelbarrow in your garden. You’ll just need to purchase a skeleton or fake bones for an extra scary effect. Fill the wheelbarrow with sand and place the bones inside. Simple as that!

4. Hanging Bats

Halloween would not be the same without blood-curdling bats in your garden! Search for a template or silhouette in the shape of half a bat to print out (you’ll find plenty online) and then cut it out. Now get some thick black paper, string, scissors, and tape or removable hooks. Fold a piece of thick black paper down the middle, place the template on the fold, and trace; cut out; and unfold. Poke holes in the bat’s tail for an upside-down bat, or in the wings and head for one that's right-side up. Now hang them up using the removable hooks and rope, or stick them up on your garden walls with double-sided tape.

5. Skulls

An easy idea for a fearful front yard is placing skulls in your garden, lit up with red or colourful lights. Skulls are easy to find at project stores and you can paint them to make them extra ominous — think blood splats or cracks. Then just add the lights to glow at night and any visiting trick-or-treaters will be mesmerised.

6. Pumpkin Head Scarecrow

Halloween is not complete without at least one pumpkin in the mix. Take the thrill factor to the next level by creating a pumpkin head scarecrow that lights up! Simply cut holes in the pumpkin for the eyes and at the bottom so that you can place a stick inside the pumpkin head. Make a cross with two long sticks by tying them together with rope. Now dress your scarecrow by adding some old clothes or a coat to cover him. Next, put battery-operated lights inside the pumpkin head and attach it to the stick. Place your scarecrow in the garden and he’s bound to scare off more than just some crows.

7. Create a Crime Scene

Alluding to something hair-raising can be just as effective as the thing itself. Keep your neighbours’ imaginations running wild with a true-life crime scene. You’ll need white paint or chalk to create an outline of a body on the grass or driveway. See if you can find some crime scene tape or caution tape and some polls to tie the tape to. Place them around the scene in a square shape.

8. Graveyard Headstones

This one will take some planning as you’ll need to order some foam headstones online or make some using styrofoam and paint. Create a graveyard scene with the headstones and add some extra soil. For night time, add some eerie yellow light to put a spotlight on the graves. Frightening times!
